In Mosa Mack’s Weather unit, students are led through a progression of three inquiry lessons that focus on temperature, pressure, and the corresponding weather patterns.
- Lesson 1
Solve: Time-Lapse Storm + Wedding Weather Mystery
Choose to solve either a live video mystery to track a powerful storm or an animated mystery exploring how storms can have different characteristics in different regions. Students discover how weather can change when air masses of different temperature and humidity collide. (Live Solve: 45-70 minutes; Animated Solve: 75 minutes)
- Lesson 2
Lab: Investigate Weather Factors
Students investigate major factors that impact weather to help a news station provide an accurate weather update for various regions across the country. (150 minutes).
- Lesson 2
Extension: Model Weather Fronts
Students plan and act out a model of the various factors that contribute to a weather front of their choice. (150 minutes)
- Lesson 3
Engineer: Become a Meteorologist
Students apply their knowledge of weather and act as meteorologists to design a weather report that predicts and explains a day of weather in a region of their choice. (150 minutes)
